About the Foundation
Who We Are
The Hoover City Schools Foundation is made up of an executive director, a Board of Directors and our newest volunteer group, Friends of the Foundation. A Student Board represents the Foundation at various functions and events throughout the community. In addition, we invite our Alumni to join to support their alma maters.

Since graduating from Samford University with a degree in Journalism/Mass Communications, Ann Marie Harvey has spent her career telling people’s stories. As the executive director of the Hoover City Schools Foundation, Ann Marie is now telling the story of the Foundation’s mission with the greater Hoover community. As the daughter of an elementary school teacher, she has seen firsthand how hard teachers work and is excited to be able to spend her time fostering community awareness, raising funds and returning them to the classroom to the benefit of both teachers and students. “It’s rewarding to see how teachers are using their grant awards in their classroom,” she says. “What we do truly makes a difference to their students.”
A native of Northern Kentucky, Ann Marie and her husband, Todd, raised their two adult daughters in Hoover. In their spare time, they enjoy visiting Susannah, who lives and works in dance and theater in Chicago, and Sarah Page, who lives and works in her mom’s hometown. Ann Marie is an avid CrossFitter, quilter, reader and writer.

Bevin Tomlin
President
Bevin Tomlin is a Northport, Alabama native who graduated from the University of Alabama with both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Finance. She has worked for Southern Company and Alabama Power Company for more than 13 years, currently as a Strategy and Finance Manager. Bevin’s biggest job is mother to her three children: daughter Taylor, who is a freshman at Hoover High and sons Baron and Brooks, in fourth and first grades at Trace Crossings Elementary. They are the reason she joined the Foundation’s Board. “We will be in the school system for the next 12 years, and I wanted to find a way to help support and make an impact,” she says. In their spare time, the family enjoys the children’s sports, their neighborhood pool at Scout Creek and traveling as much as possible. This year, they’ve been skiing over Christmas, visited Miami and Key West over spring break and took a summer trip to Costa Rica.
Dr. Ted Hoffman
Vice-President
A lifelong student and educator, New Orleans native Dr. Ted Hoffman and his family moved to Hoover in 2021 because of its well-regarded school system. As a professor at the University of Montevallo, Ted has the opportunity to observe his student teachers in many classrooms around the state. What he saw in the Hoover City Schools convinced Ted and his wife Nicole to move to the city.
“The schools were an important part of our decision-making process, as well as finding a community where our children could make lifelong friends,” Ted says. “When I walk the halls of Hoover schools, there is a feeling of excellence that permeates the buildings.”
Ted and Nicole have two children: Drew, a 7th grader at Bumpus Middle, and Reagan, a 4th grader at Brock’s Gap intermediate. Ted received bachelor’s degrees in Education and Music from the University of Southern Mississippi, two master’s degrees in Education and Instructional Leadership from Auburn University and the University of Montevallo, respectively, and his Ph.D. in Education from the University of Nebraska.
Shilpa Gaggar
Secretary
Shilpa Gaggar is a native of New York. After graduating from pharmacy school at the University of Michigan, she moved to the Birmingham area in 2001 for husband Amit’s residency in pulmonary critical care at UAB. Shilpa spent 13 years as a pharmacist at UAB Hospital and has worked an infusion clinic pharmacist at Kirklin Clinic since 2014. After moving to Hoover in 2006, Shilpa got involved with PTO. She then joined the Foundation Board in 2019 and is looking forward to continue helping the Student Board, getting more insight into how the Foundation helps the district and seeing teachers’ ideas come to fruition through the grants given. In her spare time, Shilpa enjoys singing with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra Chorus and being involved with Hoover Ahead, an organization promoting diversity, inclusion and equity regarding education in the community. Shilpa and Amit have two children, Akash, a senior at Hoover High School and Riya, a 8th grader. The family enjoys traveling and keeping up with the kids’ many activities.
